RDFa or Microformats?

June 6, 2011

I just have this to say: “I prefer to use  RDFa (and its related ontologies) over Microformats.”

Google, Yahoo and Bing seem to be biased for Microformats since they came up with schema.org (although Google does support RDFa)–but I still pick RDFa over Microformats.

HTML(5) has native support for Microdata, but RDFa can still be applied in HTML(5) so I stick with RDFa.

Sure, Microformats are easier to use.  But RDFa is more scalable, flexible (wider range of vocabularies), covers related ontologies that are made for social networks (like FOAF and SIOC), and it benefits web accessibility.  Longterm, RDFa is the way to go.

But this is just my opinion.
